Clinical Trial Finder

Project Overview

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is an organization dedicated to advancing research, supporting patients and creating hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. One of the many ways the organization realizes their vision is by connecting patients and doctors to robust and up-to-date repository of pancreatic cancer clinical trials using a tool called the Clinical Trial Finder.

I took over as the lead UX designer on the project shortly after Beta launched. At that point the project team adopted an agile process and began planning enhancements for the tool on a quarterly basis.

My responsibilities include participating in user research, planning and scoping for quarterly enhancements and creating user flows, prototypes and annotated wireframes to execute those enhancements.

Improved Wayfinding

User research indicated that users were getting lost when navigating the tool, especially when signing in after running a search. I created extensive user flow documentation focused primarily on improving backlinks and wayfinding throughout the app.

From this documentation I was able to write page-specific as well as site-wide rules for browser behavior and backlinks along with details around caching user inputs.

This has been one of my favorite projects of my career so far. I love the collaborative planning sessions with the clients, prioritizing new features and enhancements as one big group with a common mission. Working across disciplines with our internal team has also been a major learning experience. Daily I sit down with fellow designers and developers to sketch on whiteboards and talk through problems in order to find the best solution given the constraints, all while knowing we have created an incredibly powerful tool that continues to help hundreds of people find hope.
